Chinatown CDC Staff
Angelina Yu, Senior Community Organizer, supervises Chinatown CDC's Youth Program staff and youth interns. Angelina is a graduate of UC Davis where she became an active organizer of student programs around Asian-American community issues. Prior to joining Chinatown CDC as Senior Community Organizer in 2009, Angelina interned at the Asian Law Caucus and the UC AAPI MultiCampus Research Program, engaging in housing advocacy and policy research. Angelina came out of Chinatown CDC's “Adopt-An-Alleyway” (AAA) youth project and first worked as a youth tour guide under the Chinatown Alleyway Tours (CATS) program, a youth-led tour program educating people about the history of Chinatown, alleyways and community issues, dispelling the one-dimensional image that people might have of Chinatown and the APA community. Angelina currently runs Chinatown CDC's Campaign Academy program, a youth empowerment program that trains youth interns in organizing, base building and leading a campaign on an issue decided by the youth group.
Judy Kuang, Youth Program Coordinator, has been involved with Chinatown CDC since her sophomore year in high school when she joined Chinatown CDC's Adopt-An-Alleyway youth program and served as its vice president in her senior year. Judy has first-hand knowledge of the struggles of youth living in SROs and other overcrowded housing. In 2006, Judy launched the Youth for SROs program at Chinatown CDC, working with recent Chinese-speaking immigrant youth from Chinatown to provide services to SRO residents. Previous to joining Chinatown CDC as a Program Coordinator, Judy served in the Americorps program at Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center. Judy has a Bachelor's Degree from UC Davis, and a Master's Degree in Teaching ESL from the University of San Francisco (USF). She also has acquired her teaching certification.
Affiliated Faculty Deland Chan, former Senior Planner at Chinatown CDC, is a Lecturer in Urban Studies at Stanford University. Deland teaches Sustainable Cities, a project-based service learning class where students collaborate with Bay Area government agencies and non-profit organizations on sustainability projects. Deland has professional planning experience leading transportation planning and land use projects at a community development corporation in San Francisco. Along with Angelina and Judy, she co-founded the Chinatown Urban Institute in 2009. Deland holds a B.A. in Urban Studies and a M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University, and a Master in City Planning from the University of California at Berkeley. |
